1.2 Problematic
Throughout this essay we will try to answer the following question:
What Windows 2008 Server offers, where the main changes/improvements have occurred and what new features have been introduced since Windows 2003 Server ?

1.3 Windows 2008 Server in General
Originally known as Windows Server Codename « Longhorn », Windows Server2008 is an Operating System oriented server developed by Microsoft on February 4, 2008. He succeeds to the hugely popular Windows 2003 Server. Then follow on December 6, 2005 Windows Server 2003 R2 (updated). And finally comes Windows Server 2008 R2 on July 22, 2009.

As Windows 7 and Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 is built on Windows NT 6.x.
Furthermore Windows Server 2008 carries much ofthe same architecture and core functionality with Windows Vista.
Windows Server 2008 builds on the features found in Windows Server 2003, it brings together the best of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003.
Moreover, such as Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 comes in a number of versions and a number of editions intended to provide key functionality to support any sized business and ITchallenge. The four main product editions are Windows Server 2008 Standard, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 Datacenter and Windows Web Server 2008.

* Print Server
* Windows-server virtualization
* Active Directory Domain Services
* Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS)
* Domain Name Service (DNS) Server
* DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server

* BitLocker Drive Encryption
* Failover Clustering* Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
* Network Load Balancing
* Quality of Service (QoS)
* Backup
* Removable Storage
