Part 1: Things You Should Know
Please read through the DirectX section of this document. This section has information that is vital to successfully running Commandos 3 on your system.
1.1 DirectX
This game is optimized for Microsoft’s DirectX 9. In order for you to play the game, you must have DirectX 9-compliant drivers for your video card andsound card. Please note that although DirectX 9 is installed with the game, your video and sound card drivers will not be upgraded to DirectX 9 drivers.
You will need to obtain the latest DirectX 9 drivers from your card manufacturer or PC supplier. These drivers cannot be supplied by Eidos.
1.2 Memory and Performance
While the game will run fine in 256 Mb of RAM, your playing experiencewill be smoother if you have at least 512 Mb.
Regardless of how much memory you have, you can maximize your available memory and increase the overall performance of the game engine by doing the following:
Closing any open windows
Shutting down all other programs, including menu-bar programs like ICQ
Defragmenting your hard drive
Eidos recommends that you have no other programs runningat all while playing Commandos 3. Other programs, including virus checkers, system utilities and screen savers can cause system degradation when playing games software and may conflict with the game for system resources, potentially resulting in instability and crashes.
1.3 Known Issues
Any form of returning to Windows (i.e. Alt-Tab) is not supported.
Some buttons are incorrectly drawnbut still function on Matrox G400/450 cards. Game is performance unaffected.
Admin rights are required for installation/playing the game on Windows 2000/XP.
On startup of each level the game will cache the data required and the user may be on a blank screen for a few seconds, depending on specification of PC.
If user experiences problems launching Commandos 3 – Destination Berlin afteruninstalling the demo the reason is the shortcut on your desktop has become corrupted. To correct this re-run the setup.exe program on disc 1 and select `Repair` from the options given.
The following keys are used in the multiplayer game
Backspace -Displaying scores
CTRL+ENTER –Chat
CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER -Team Chat
If a player loses their whole team during a multi-player game, then they willlose regardless of how many Points or Flags were obtained.
In the 30 mins timed Deathmatch, Multi-Player Objectives should read: “Team with the most Points wins”.
Mission objectives for ‘Central Europe: Stop Bomb Deployment’ mission states that you must kill all enemies and destroy all of their vehicles, but not all of the vehicles need to be destroyed to complete the level.
The tool tip forAssault Rifle Ammo is incorrect. It currently reads as: ‘Machine Gun Ammo’ but should read as: ‘Assault Rifle Ammo’.
Be careful in the ‘Central Europe: Get to Engine’ mission! If you throw a grenade in the train wagons containing the art, you will destroy the art and the mission will fail.
There are no tool tips for motorcycles with sidecars.
The Help menu states that all commandos can use GasGrenades, however only the Sapper can use them.
The Help Menu has sections explaining how to use a Radio and a Trap, but these items have been removed from the game.
To create Poisoned Dog Food in the ‘Normandy: German Camp’ mission, combine the Sleeping Pills and the Dog Food in the Inventory (select the Sleeping Pills, and drop them on to the Dog Food).
Only the Diver can use the GrapplingHook. It allows him to climb in through some windows. To use it:
Select the Grappling Hook. When the ‘hook’ icon appears over a window, Left-Click to deploy.
Place the cursor over the rope hanging down from the window and when the ladder icon appears, Left-Click to climb the rope.
To pick up the Grappling Hook, go to exterior view using the Previous Room / Next Room buttons. Move the cursor over…
